Japanese Craft Book Review- Cotton Time Issue 75

Cotton Time

Reference Number 4910138231176 00838

Yen 880

I ordered this book once I saw the cover. The advent calendar was a project I wanted to try to make. This magazine was published in November and has a lot of Christmas related projects but there are a ton of other little projects and lots of inspiration in this magazine. This is one reason why I admire Japanese culture. Everything is so visual and appealing. I do not find North American magazines enjoyable to look through as much as Japanese magazines even though I cannot read anything! My collection is timeless and I hope to pass it down to my kids if they ever find an interest in crafts.

Note: Unfortunately this is no longer published. You will need to find a reputable seller on eBay or Etsy to find this issue for you.

Japanese Craft Book Review-Wool Felt Goods

Happy New Year to Everyone! I apologize for not updating my blog for so long. I am back to finishing up my reviews on Japanese Craft books.

Wool Felt Goods

This is a very cute and informative book on felting. The pictures in this book are great and the projects are inspiring.  Even for a complete felt beginner like me the few picture tutorials in this book are great to get started. The rest of the projects can easily be figured out by following the basic steps, such as wet felting some roving into a sheet.

Note: There is a great website listed on the back of this book from which you can order supplies. It is a Japanese site though, so you will need someone to help you out with the order! Otherwise, Superbuzzy has some Japanese felt supplies.

Japanese Craft Book Review-Story Quilt

Story Quilt

I love this book because……its just beautiful to look at. I have never really looked at or had any tiny bit of interest in quilting until I saw this book on eBay. It is one of the most unique books on quilting I found after doing some more research on other books. Its a definite must have for any Japanese craft book collector!

Note: This is a hard cover book!

Japanese Craft Book Review- From My Dear Garden

From My Dear Garden

ISBN 978-4-277-31136-6

I love the artist that creates this series of books (Tiny Garden). So far I have 4 books in total and I believe there are 3 more available on embroidery and 2 on cross-stitch. This particular book has some beautiful projects and very inspiring photos.  There are not many instructions in this book but it does include most of the patterns needed to re-create the projects.

Cute Embroidery for a Princess

This is a cute book with some nice ideas on small embroidery. The book has sections with diagrams to explain (in Japanese) how to embroider some of the designs. This book is not in my top five but I would still recommend it to someone looking for some cute girly designs!

Embroidery Animals and Insects

This is one of my most treasured books. It has tiny embroidery of animals! (my two loves…) The book is full of many designs and the traceable patterns come directly after a set of pages. Like most Japanese craft books, they are almost entirely in Japanese but the instructions are quite easy to follow especially if you have some knowledge on basic sewing and stitching. Even a complete beginner like me was able to figure it out!

I give top marks to this book. It should definitely be a part of your collection.

I love this book. It has to be one of the most unique I have seen to date and the most fun to look at each time. I wish it was fatter and filled with even more pages and pictures! The only thing I do not like about this book is that it does not really indicate what materials are used for the grassy patch. I even had a friend look through and there was not much information on what exactly it was and where to purchase.

I totally recommend this book for viewing pleasure though!

Japanese Craft Book Reveiws

Over the next couple days I will  be writing reviews and posting pics of my current (and growing) collection of Japanese craft books. I hope that the information will be helpful to someone! I always look for as many reviews and sample pictures of a book before purchasing it.
